UAPB-ERDC hosts Biz Camp

Pine Bluff, Ark- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) Economic Research and Development Center (ERDC) Business Support Incubator (BSI) is pleased to announce its 1st annual “UAPB-BSI Summer Biz Camp 2010″. The camp is a weeklong workshop designed to teach and nurture young entrepreneur’s grades 9-12.

The UAPB-BSI Summer Biz Camp is one of many programs that UAPB-ERDC sponsors to support entrepreneurs. An example of a successful youth entrepreneurship program is TOPPS Graphics, a printing and graphic design business operated by teenagers with adult supervision. TOPPS Graphics is located in ERDC’s UAPB Plaza and will also be one of the field trips that participants will enjoy. Other field trips include: Goodwill, UAPB School of Business, Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce, and Simmons First National Bank. Speakers and presenters for the week include Annette Dove, Executive Director of TOPPS and TOPPS Graphics, Sylvester Harrell, CEO of Harrell Insurance, Betty Butler, Asst. Executive Director United Family Services UAPB-BSI tenants Tish Bullard of The Pink Tea Rose, Denise Richardson of Richardson Photography, and Gary Paris of Harbor City TV. Students will also hear from area/regional business and industry leaders including Rodney O. Parks of Philander Smith College and Parks Professional Group.

The UAPB-BSI Summer Biz Camp is being facilitated by UAPB-BSI tenant Beautiful Productions, LLC. Beautiful Productions, LLC is owned and operated by Furonda Brasfield and Tabitha Lee, and is designed to promote personal development and education among youth.

About ERDC

The Economic Research and Development Center (ERDC) at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is a division of the School of Business and Management.  Since its inception in 1986, ERDC has served as a full-service business and community economic development outreach program for UAPB by providing services to individuals from client groups that include aspiring and existing business owners, community, grassroots, faith-based organizations and local governments.  The purpose of the center is to address the economic concerns of eastern and southeastern Arkansas by mobilizing and engaging the resources of the University and other appropriate sources.
